An Urgent Need for Action
Beaufort and Jasper Counties are beacons of natural beauty and historical significance. Yet many of our residents face the challenges of workforce and affordable housing scarcity, community concerns, and socioeconomic disparities. Recognizing the urgent need for action, community leaders, advocates, and stakeholders came together to create the Beaufort Jasper Housing Trust. We are driven by a shared purpose: to create and preserve workforce and affordable housing in Beaufort and Jasper Counties.
Cost Burdened renters
Cost-burdened renters pay more than 30 percent of their income for housing and may have difficulty affording necessities such as food, clothing, transportation, and medical care. Severe rent burden is defined as paying more than 50 percent of one’s income on rent.

The Beaufort-Jasper Housing Trust (BJHT) is proud to support three first-time homebuyers in Ridgeland through a partnership with Lowcountry Habitat for Humanity. LIHTC and Tax-Exempt Bond Final Point Scores and Application Rankings
SC Housing has released its lists of 2025 applications for the state’s competitive 9% Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) and Tax-Exempt Bond (TEB) programs—two of South Carolina’s primary financing tools for affordable and workforce housing development. Unfortunately, no applications were submitted from Beaufort or Jasper counties for the 2025 9% LIHTC round, and only one application was submitted from the region
